Ecunha - At least twenty patients with different pathologies have benefited from medical assistance via the telemedicine center in Ecunha municipality, central Huambo province, ANGOP learned on Tuesday.
These were consultations in the specialties of Ophthalmology, Dermatology, Nephrology and others related to neglected tropical diseases, which has contributed to reducing the distances that patients would have traveled to access these health services.
Speaking to ANGOP, the local hospital director, Américo Benjamim Eiúba, said the telemedicine has simplified health services and made it possible to have direct consultations with specialist doctors in various hospital units using this communication system.
According to the health official, although assistance is rare, telemedicine services shorten distances and facilitate a proper medical consultation, without the need to transfer patients.
Eliúba explained that these services put the patient in direct contact with the specialist and provide consultations in real time, bringing health services closer together.
He added that public health policies are currently focused on bringing medical services closer to the population, as well as on the quality of treatment for various pathologies, for epidemiological prevention in communities.
Américo Benjamin Eiúba added that these services are enabling an exchange and transfer of knowledge in the different specialties of the Health Sciences and the sharing of successful cases of medical treatment, which serve as an example for epidemiological prevention in the municipality.
In Huambo province, in addition to the General Hospital, telemedicine services have been incorporated into the health units in of several municipalities namely Bailundo, Caála, Cachiungo, Chicala-Cholohanga, Chinjenje, Ecunha, Londuimbali, Mungo and Ucuma. LT/JSV/ALH/TED/AMP
