Luanda -At least 58 suspected cases of cholera have been registered in the second week of 2025 in the municipality of Cacuaco, in Luanda, according to the bulletin of the Ministry of Health, ANGOP has learned.
According to the bulletin, of the total registered cases, 36 are male and 22 female, aged between 6 and 65 years.
It shows that 18 patients are hospitalized in the Municipal Hospital of Cacuaco, 10 in the Pediatrics Department, eight in the Medical Department, six in the Provincial Hospital of Quifangondo and one in the Maternity Hospital of Lucrécia Paim.
The bulletin adds that the Ministry of Health has declared an outbreak and activated the National Cholera Response Plan, updated the Technical Commission and mobilized medical resources and medicines.
All cases were recorded in the municipality of Cacuaco (Luanda), located in a suburban area with an estimated population of 1.2 million.
The Ministry stepped up training of health workers at all levels and mobilized rapid response teams at the central, provincial and municipal levels throughout the country.
It has also strengthened epidemiological surveillance at points of entry and harmonized epidemiological and laboratory surveillance databases to ensure quality information and decision-making.
On Wednesday, a delegation from the Ministry visited the municipality of Cacuaco, specifically the area where the first suspected cases were registered, and found a lack of basic sanitation and no drinking water supply.
As part of the prevention and control of the disease, the Ministry of Health has established five cholera centers in the municipalities of Cacuaco (03) and Sequele (02). MEL/SEC/OHA/DAN/AMP
