Lubango - The Lubango respiratory Hospital has, for the first time, a cardio-pneumology service, along with a modernizing microbiology, biochemistry and radiology services to expand assistance and improve patient follow-up.
Speaking to ANGOP on Wednesday, the hospital's director-general, Lourenço Kotele, said there have been "significant" gains in terms of laboratories, as the unit has 80 percent of state-of-the-art materials that will come into operation in a month.
As for the cardio-pneumology service, which has three technicians, he said the ultrasound and cardiographs, among other equipment, are available and that the location where they would be installed has been improved.
He highlighted the fact that this is a service for diagnosing chronic obstructive pulmonary pathologies to see how well the lungs are functioning, as people are currently suffering from various diseases that affect the intra-thoracic cavity, such as bronchopneumonia, asthmatic bronchitis and pulmonary fibrosis, among others.
As for microbiology, according to the director, it used to be done manually and now it's automated and will make it easier for doctors to carry out the diagnosis, whose devices will provide the causal agent and propose medication, a service that also has three technicians.
"We have the bacteriological analyzer, among other means that the hospital is gradually getting with the support of the government, in an automated way. With this, we're going to provide better care for patients, as they'll be medicated more assertively," he said.
The Lubango respiratory Hospital has the capacity to admit 120 patients and has more than 200 technicians, including medical and administrative staff, who attend to more than 80 people every day. MS/TED/AMP
