Caxito – In recent years, Angola has registered a reduction in the maternal and under-five mortality rate, from 1,350 stillbirths per 100,000 live births in 2017 to 220 stillbirths per 100,000 live births in recent years.
The data was made official in Caxito, province of Bengo, by the secretary of State for Public Health, Carlos Alberto Pinto de Sousa, at the end of the 2nd National Meeting of Health Jurists.
The governor explained this reduction mainly with the investment made in the health sector by President João Lourenço, which has enabled the construction, expansion and rehabilitation of infrastructures, equipped with modern equipment and the highest technology, as well as in the training of human resources in the most diverse areas of health, in the country and abroad.
Carlos Alberto Pinto de Sousa informed, on the other hand, that the average life expectancy of the Angolan population has increased in recent years, without however revealing by how much.
According to the secretary of State, these achievements are commendable and reflect the Executive's resilience and dedication to improving the social well-being of citizens.
“Despite these gains, we still face major challenges in achieving universal health coverage and improving the quality of health services, the action of all members of the sector being essential for overcoming the challenges”, he highlighted.
He said that the Executive has created legislative conditions for the sector to fully and successfully fulfill its functions, citing as an example the approval of the Regulation on Licensing for the Exercise of Pharmaceutical Activity, the Regulation on Specialized Nursing Training and the Prevention Plan, Support and Protection for People with Noncommunicable Diseases (NCDs) 2024 – 2027.
