Ondjiva – Thirty teachers from 5th and 6th grade have been attending a training on menstrual health and sexual education, since Tuesday, in the city of Ondjiva, Cunene province, within the scope of the Safeguarding Program for Young People - SYP.
The four-day training course aims to promote the expansion of knowledge and skills in menstrual hygiene to reduce risks linked to sexual and reproductive health.
The training addresses topics such as sexual reproductive education, comprehensive menstrual hygiene and gender-based violence.
On the occasion, the director of Education in Cunene, Domingos de Oliveira, said that the teachers are being trained to deal with primary education matters, especially in the school, as well as the extra-school environment.
"The objective is to increase girls' knowledge at an early age and sustainable access to hygiene kits to protect themselves from the risks of HIV/AIDS) and other diseases", he highlighted.
The Youth Safeguarding Programme, which covers the provinces of Luanda, Huíla, Namibe, Cuando Cubango and Cunene, aims to reach 60,000 in terms of training and support.
It is being implemented by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), between 2021 and 2026, and is funded by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, valued at USD 4 million. PEM/LHE/OHA/MRA/DOJ
