Ondjiva - The representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Cunene province, Mavitindi Sebastião, on Thursday recommended strengthening measures to prevent and control respiratory diseases, which are very common during the dry season.
In Angola, the dry season officially begins on May 15 and ends on August 15, a period characterized by a gradual drop in temperature, air temperature and an increase in atmospheric pressure.
According to the WHO official, respiratory illnesses such as rhinitis, flu, coughs, pneumonia, asthma and bronchitis are common during this period, affecting children and the elderly in particular.
With this in mind, he advised drinking water, juices, teas and honey, as well as avoiding the use of air conditioning units as preventative measures.
"Low temperatures are factors that contribute to the occurrence of respiratory diseases, hence the need to avoid cold environments and consume cool drinks, while drinking hot liquids and natural water is fundamental," Sebastião said.
