Moçâmedes - Namibe province is to have a hemodialysis centre with the capacity to treat 40 patients a day within six months time, currently under construction at Ngola Kimbanda hospital, the deputy governor for political, social and economic sector, Abel Kapitango said Tuesday.
In addition to haemodialysis, the project, which has created 18 jobs, the construction works includes the rehabilitation of the emergency room of the Ngola Kimbanda hospital.
Abel Kapitango said the services are needed in the province, judging by the number of patients who travel three times to neighboring Huila province to seek these services.
Kapitango said the local authorities are concerned about the well-being of the citizens and will continue to take steps to ensure that the province has more health services to meet the demand.
Luís Cardoso, director of Ngola Kimbanda Hospital, on his turn said the unit will solve the problems of patients with chronic kidney disease, adding that currently nine nurses are attending specialized training in haemodialysis in the country’s capital, Luanda.
‘We are also training two nephrologists and will have specialized staff to attend patients,’ Kapitango said.
