Cuito - The health authorities in central Bié province recorded 592 deaths from malaria during the first six months of this year, compared to 869 in the previous period, out of a total of 592,229 reported cases of the disease, the head of public health and endemic control, Isaías Sambunga Cambissa told ANGOP.
Isaías Sambunga Cambissa said the municipalities of Cuito, Camacupa and Andulo top the list of deaths, with 336, 79 and 69, while Cuemba had the fewest deaths, with 14, underlining that the local authorities seek to reduce the number of new cases and deaths.
Cambisssa added that among the measures implemented by the authorities to reduce the mortality rate are the distribution of insecticide-treated mosquito nets, awareness-raising talks, training for medical staff, spraying homes and combating stagnant water.
The health official urged the population to give more importance to prevention, especially in the fight against the mosquito that transmits the disease, in order to reduce morbidity and mortality rates within communities. AS/PLB/DAN/AMP
