Luanda – Six patients with suspected cases of cholera have already been discharged, the secretary of State for the Hospital Area, Leonardo Inocêncio, informed on Wednesday, in Luanda.
Recently, the municipality of Cacuaco registered 25 suspected cases of cholera, five of which resulted in deaths.
According to the government official, other patients are still under medical monitoring.
He added that another seven people were admitted to the Heróis de Kifangondo General Hospital, in the province of Icolo e Bengo, with symptoms of the disease and were attended to by the medical team on duty.
Cholera is a disease transmitted by untreated water, contaminated food, handling food with dirty hands, among other ways.
It should be noted that last Wednesday, Leonardo Inocêncio, accompanied by representatives for the Energy and Water, as well as the Environment sectors, the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) and the National Directorate of Public Health, carried out a visit to check the progress of hospitalized patients and the implementation of the disease contingency plan.
