Mbanza Kongo – A six kilo tumor was removed on Monday from the body of a six-year-old child, by Angolan doctors from the Zaire Provincial Hospital (HPZ), in the city of Mbanza Kongo, ANGOP learned this Wednesday.
According to the general director of the largest hospital unit in Zaire, João Bamba, the successful removal of the uterine cyst involved a medical team made up of six Angolan specialists.
The obstetrician also considered the aforementioned surgical intervention complex, which lasted around 45 minutes, due to the patient's age.
“It is a rare uterine tumor that was successfully removed. The patient is recovering as expected, 48 hours after the surgery”, he highlighted.
He informed that the work is part of 17 other surgical interventions for fibroids, cysts and other gynecological tumors carried out in the last 30 days at the provincial hospital, as part of a campaign carried out by local health authorities.
He said that the hospital, called Maria Eugénia Neto, intends to carry out 47 gynecological surgeries, to save the lives of many patients with these health issues.
João Bamba added that surgeries of this type will now be carried out quarterly, to reduce the waiting list of patients coming to the hospital.
Reinforcement of blood stock
On the other hand, ten bags of blood were donated on Tuesday to the hemotherapy center of the Zaire Provincial Hospital by staff from the Delegation of the Ministry of the Interior, as part of the celebrations of the 44th anniversary of this ministerial department, to be celebrated on the 22nd of this month.
When thanking the gesture, the official for the hemotherapy center, Capela Boavida, asked for more institutions to follow the example, to reduce the lack of blood in this hospital unit.
The hemotherapy center at the Zaire Provincial Hospital has the capacity to store more than 200 bags of blood.
