Cuito - Three hundred and 13 thousand and 55 citizens of the province of Bié were vaccinated against Covid-19, in the last 16 months, as part of the implementation of the project to reinforce immunization campaigns for the population of vaccine age 'Global Vax'.
The data was presented on Friday by the project's provincial coordinator, Gabriel Filipe Camolacamue, during the closing ceremony of field activities at provincial level.
These numbers exceed the expectations of the project, in an initiative by the non-governmental organization People-to-People Development Assistance (PPDA), which initially planned to vaccinate 226, 784 individuals.
According to the source, the aforementioned citizens were vaccinated in the municipalities of Andulo, Cuito and Camacupa, where it was implemented, since August 2022.
He pointed out the municipality of Culto as having achieved the highest level of vaccination coverage, with 135,475 citizens, followed by Andulo, with 97,898, and finally Camacupa, with 79,025.
Among them, he continued, some were immunized up to the booster dose and others with a single dose of Pfizer, Astrazeneca, Sinophar, Jhonson and Jhonson.
During his intervention, Gabriel Filipe Camolacamue explained that the project, implemented with funding from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), involved the involvement of 99 community agents, three municipal organizers, an equal number of vaccination supervisors, in addition to a provincial coordinator.
He highlighted the effective collaboration of local and traditional administrative authorities, residents' committees and public and private institutions, which allowed satisfactory results to be achieved.
Regarding the prospects for the project, he announced the implementation, by next month, in the three municipalities, of training actions for health professionals and equipping health units with storage and conservation equipment for covid-19 vaccines, in as part of the Angolan Government's program for its integration into routine vaccination campaigns.
For his part, the provincial coordinator of ADPP in Bié, Laurindo Chissingui Package, said that his organization is working with the health authorities to extend the program to the remaining municipalities in the province, with a view to helping the government achieve results recommended in terms of vaccination coverage, to immunize the population against the disease.
Laurindo Chissingui Package also announced the implementation in the province, in the coming months, of a project linked to measures to prevent and combat HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and other diseases.
In addition to the province of Bié, the Global Vax project, implemented under the motto: “Zero civilians starts with me”, also covered the provinces of Bengo, Cuando Cubango and Luanda.
