Ndalatando - The Provincial Maternal and Pediatric Hospital of Cuanza-Norte resumed public service on Wednesday, Jan 8, three days after a small fire damaged part of the electrical installation and the general panel, leaving the unit in the dark.
The incident, allegedly caused by a short circuit and which caused losses estimated at Akz 8 million (US$ 8.734,16), forced the transfer of 40 patients, including pregnant women and children, to the General Mário Pinto de Andrade and Cazengo municipal hospitals.
During a visit to the hospital, the provincial governor, João Diogo Gaspar, was satisfied with the quick intervention of the unit, having congratulated the technicians who worked to normalize the situation.
He made it known that investigations are currently underway to determine the real causes of the fire.
On the other hand, he announced the construction of a new Maternal and Child Hospital in the province, with better quality and more services, justifying that the current infrastructure no longer corresponds to the current challenges.
In turn, the institution's general director, Arão da Silva, assured that the unit has regularly benefited from maintenance and conservation actions for electrical equipment.
The electrotechnician at the company responsible for restoring electricity, Flávio de Almeida, said he assumed that the short circuit was caused by an overload in consumption and heating of the installation.
The Provincial Maternal and Pediatric Hospital, opened in 2012, has 150 beds, whose work is carried out by 378 health technicians, including doctors, nurses and diagnostic therapists.
