Luanda - The Américo Boavida Hospital built in the 1960s in the urban district of Rangel, Luanda Province, will be closed for rehabilitation work, the director of the institution Mário Fernandes said Monday.
According to the director, the institution will not provide assistance of any kind to be given a full facelift to be carried out in two phases, the first being the expansion of the premises and the second the refurbishment of the main building.
Fernandes said that the constructor in the first phase will start deep rehabilitation works of the building from the structure and conditioning of the hospital so that it can be modernized.
The director added that the rehabilitation of the hospital, with a capacity for 300 beds, aims to improve patient care, increase services and introduce new services such as otorhinolaryngology and ophthalmology.
"Today, we know that the health units have more modern operating standards, like other hospital units in the country", Fernandes said, adding that the hospital has a structure dating back to the 1960s and therefore needs to be thoroughly reorganized.
The unit has more than 300 workers, including doctors, nurses and other staff. It has almost all specialties, except otorhinolaryngology and ophthalmology.
