Matala – At least 14 health units in the municipality of Matala, the second most populated in the southern province of Huíla, will benefit from the Integrated Program for the Management and Treatment of Acute and Severe Malnutrition, an initiative of the United Nations Children's Fund (Unicef).
The gesture also counts on the partnership of the Non-governmental Organization PanAfricare and the Angola's Ministry of Health, in a municipality where an average of 90 cases of malnutrition are recorded monthly.
Upon leaving a meeting with the municipal administrator, Manuel Quilende, the Unicef official, Paulo Mendes, highlighted that the program includes training actions for health technicians and community agents on the management of cases of acute and severe malnutrition, supply of nutritional products therapies, as well as strengthening the supervision component of health units.
For his part, administrator Manuel Quilende, presented the socioeconomic characteristics of the land of diversity, praised the initiative and believes that the implementation of the program will improve medical and medication assistance for more than 370 thousand inhabitants.
The municipality of Matala, located 180 kilometers east of Lubango, has 25 health units and, this semester, gains its first nutrition center, which will be linked to the local General Hospital.
