Luanda - The Ministry of Health of Angola is carrying out a prostate cancer screening campaign in several hospitals across the country from this Monday (29) until August 9 of this year, ANGOP learned on Sunday.
According to a press release, the campaign will take place at the General Hospital of Cacuaco “Heróis de Kifangondo”, at the General Hospital of Viana “Bispo Emílio de Carvalho”, and at the General Hospital of Bengo Reverend Guilherme Pereira Inglês.
It will also take place, in Cabinda, at Luís Sambo Ervanary General Hospital and in Lubango, at the “Dr. António Agostinho Neto”.
The note explains that the aforementioned screening is part of a broader program to introduce highly complex treatment of the disease through robotic surgery in partnership with a team of highly specialized doctors.
It is also part of the technical assistance framework of the Advent Health Celebration Hospital, Global Robotics Institute and Nicholson Center in the United States of America.
Offering training and qualifying Angolan medical teams are the main goals of this campaign so that robotic surgery becomes a reality in Angola.
The screening will consist of evaluation by qualified specialists of men aged 40 or over with the support of laboratory and imaging tests.
The aim of this initiative is early diagnosis and management of cases eligible for the aforementioned treatment.
The note clarifies that prostate cancer is the most common malignant tumor in men and has the peculiarity of evolving silently.
In most cases, he adds, patients do not have any symptoms during the progression of the tumor, and complaints arise in the advanced stage of the disease.
The note defines robotic surgery as a minimally invasive technology, which reduces hospital stays, has better results and saves lives. IZ/DOJ
