Huambo – The shortage of blood stock in hemotherapy at the General Hospital of Huambo (HGH) due to the absence of volunteers, has meant that the relatives of hospitalized patients have now become the main donors, ANGOP learned.
On a daily average, 20 to 25 relatives, some of whom are from distant areas, are forced to donate blood, to meet the shortage faced by the largest health unit in the province of Huambo.
Speaking to ANGOP, the technician at the health unit's hemotherapy center, Florinda Cassinda, said that the hospital needs 70 bags of blood/day, to respond to clinical requests, especially in the areas of urgency, maternity, pediatrics and the operating room. .
She said that the institution currently has difficulties in stocking, due to the lack of voluntary and collective donors.
In case of emergency, according to the technician, who spoke during the blood donation campaign promoted by the “Wilne Padre e Advogados” office, which resulted in 20 bags, family members of patients in need of transfusion are obliged to donate, mainly, pregnant women and victims of malaria, anemia and road accidents.
In turn, the head of this law firm, Wilne Padre, said that the campaign served to respond to the calls of the largest health unit in the province and, at the same time, cultivate the spirit of solidarity and love for others among lawyers and the population, in general.
