Cazenga - Cardiopulmonary Diseases 'Cardeal Dom Alexandre do Nascimento' Hospital will perform this Tuesday the first robotic surgery in the country, announced Monday, in Luanda, the Minister of Health, Sílvia Lutucuta.
According to the minister, this milestone opens doors to a future of more precise, less invasive surgeries with faster recovery for patients.
Sílvia Lutucuta, who was speaking to the press during a visit to the Hospital, informed that the Ministry of Health (MINSA) is carrying out a massive prostate cancer screening campaign to assess patients who are able to undergo robotic surgery.
'Patients with prostate cancer, who will be the first to undergo robotic surgical intervention, if diagnosed early, can be cured,' the minister said.
According to the minister, this process, which is being led by oncological urologist Vitul Patel and his team from the American company 'AdvantHealth', has a training component for Angolans.
To this end, according to the minister, about 15 professionals including doctors, nurses, diagnostic technicians, sterilization and telecommunications staff are being trained to handle the equipment that performs the surgery.
Robotic surgery is a minimally invasive surgery, in which the patient can return to their normal activities much faster. It is less painful and the patient can recover much faster than conventional surgery and has less blood loss. KAM/PA/DOJ
