Luena- Ninety-three patients, with various facial deformities, underwent surgical interventions during the maxillofacial surgery campaign that took place from the 20th to the 27th of August, at the General Hospital of Moxico (HGM).
According to the campaign manager, Agnelo Lucamba, who was speaking to the press on Tuesday, 93 of the 140 planned surgeries were carried out successfully.
He also said that the remaining 47 registered patients will be selected later by the medical team at HGM.
He explained that chyloids and goiters are the pathologies that have been most recorded and that, according to the specialists, deserve special attention in a future project.
For his part, little Dionísio Cahilo, 15 years old, who had surgery on an Ankyloses TMJ, which made it impossible for him to open his mouth for more than 10 years, was satisfied, because now, in addition to being able to eat, he leads a normal life and plays like other children.
'I'm very happy, because I didn't open my mouth, I only ate porridge, soups and broth and with straws, I'm very grateful,' he said, moved.
Another patient who is in the same situation is the teenager Juvenal Mutunda, 18 years old, who suffered from a cyst on his face since birth, and was also submitted to the surgical procedure and recovers satisfactorily.
An initiative of the Ministry of Health and a partnership with the Josina Machel Hospital, the campaign aims to operate, free of charge, patients with cleft lip (clefts, leoporinos and cleft palates) and was ensured by 14 specialists.
The provincial governor, Ernesto Muangala, went to the HGM to show solidarity with the operated patients and highlight the work done by the medical team.
The campaign is being carried out in five provinces of the country, namely, Moxico, Benguela, Uige, Huambo and Luanda. ISAU/YD/MR/DOJ
