Ondjiva - The Council of Christian Churches in Angola's (CICA) representative, Reverend João Gimbi, informed, on Sunday Jan 9, that the institution is promoting awareness-raising actions to reinforce measures to combat and prevent cholera outbreak in the province of Cunene.
Reverend João Gimbi was speaking to ANGOP when he said that churches are oriented to disseminate information about hygiene care, including washing hands, cleaning homes and places of worship, avoiding defecating in the open, among others.
For him, as a partner of the State, the church has the responsibility of mobilizing citizens to participate in this process.
“Our responsibility is not limited to spirituality alone, it is essential to assume a crucial role in citizens' education and mobilization”, he highlighted.
Angola has, so far, a cumulative of 2,886 cases of cholera, confirmed in the provinces of Bengo, Icolo and Bengo, Cuanza-Norte and Cuanza-Sul, Cunene, Huambo, Huíla, Luanda, Malanje and Zaire.
The outbreak began in Jan 2025's 1st week and affected people aged between 2 and 100 years of age, including 1,616 men and 1,270 women.
Luanda leads with 1,425 number of cases, followed by the provinces of Bengo with (1,062), Icolo and Bengo (371), Huambo (6), Zaire (5), Cuanza-Sul (5), Huíla (5), Malanje (4), Cuanza-Norte (2) and Cunene (1). FI/LHE/OHA/CF/DOJ
