Luanda – Roughly 15 to 20 percent of the male population in Angola can develop prostate cancer every year after the age of 45, the coordinator of the scientific committee of the Girassol Clinic, Sérgio Neto, said Tuesday in Luanda.
According to the doctor, the incidence of prostate cancer in the country continues to be high and has victimized individuals over 50 years of age, whose increase is due to the fact that the disease is silent, as well as cultural restrictions and a lack of regular consultations.
He added that the clinic receives around 700 patients with the disease every year, most of them already in critical conditions and urged men over the age of 40 to have regular prostate cancer screening tests.
The doctor, speaking ahead of the clinic’s fourth congress, said that it will provide a unique environment for health professionals, students and entrepreneurs to share knowledge and discuss the best practices and innovations that will shape the future of health in Angola.
The event to run under the motto “What future do we want? Innovation and Sustainability”, will take place from September 5 to 6 and will be attended by around a thousand health professionals, including 75 guest speakers.AMC/MCN/TED/AMP
