Cabinda – Around 100 Cuban doctors, of the more than 1,000 who work nationwide, are placed in areas of surgery and training of national staff at the General Hospital of Cabinda “Ervanário Luís Gomes Sambo”.
The information was provided on Sunday, in Cabinda, by the Secretary of State for Health for the Hospital Area, Leonardo Inocêncio, on the sidelines of a visit lasting a few hours that the Minister of Health of the Republic of Cuba, José Angel Miranda, made to this province.
He considered the cooperation between Angola and Cuba in the health sector to be fruitful, as in addition to training staff and complex surgeries, Cuban specialists have also contributed to administrative and human resources management.
He informed that a memorandum will soon be signed between the two countries in the field of Neonatology.
For his part, the ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Angola, Óscar Leo Gonzales, reaffirmed his country's commitment to keep training national staff in the health, education, civil construction and agriculture sectors.
He praised the work that national and Cuban staff placed in several health units in Cabinda provide to the local population.
Since its opening back in April 2022, the Cabinda General Hospital “Ervanáio Luís Gomes Sambo”, has performed more than 3,800 complex surgeries, involving national and expatriate staff.
