Huambo – The public Hemodialysis Center of Huambo, opened five days ago by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, has already treated a total of 87 patients with chronic and acute renal failure.
The information was provided to ANGOP on Thursday by the Center's coordinator, Glório Lando, highlighting that, on average, 17 patients are assisted in each session, of the three daily sessions.
He recalled that the Huambo Hemodialysis Center has the capacity to carry out 40 dialysis sessions/day, hence the fact that the number of patients will increase in the coming days. He referred to patients from the provinces of Benguela, Bié and Huambo, aged between 13 and 72 years old, with appropriate medication and controlled dialysis sessions.
He added that, in addition to the treatment, they benefit from a daily snack, to avoid other complications, such as dizziness and body weakness, after the sessions that last approximately four hours.
He called on the citizens to lead a healthier life, control blood pressure, have adequate nutrition, practice physical exercise and avoid urinary infections and diabetes, which can affect the kidneys.
Heard by ANGOP, some patients stated that the worries they had about purchasing medicines and other difficulties after the dialysis session were a thing of the past, in addition to feeling more comfortable in the care and transport to and from the hospital. Domingas Luísa, 54 years old, said she felt better accommodated in the treatment, medication and transport made available by the Angolan Government, a fact that did not happen in the past, requiring several sacrifices.
Having been a kidney patient for 10 years, he praised the goodwill and initiative of the Angolan Executive, which needs to be encouraged, in order to increasingly invest in the improvement of patients in this condition, who need, with caution, to have a very regulated diet, to Do not damage other organs in the human body.
Adelino Abrantes, 43 years old, said it is a new cycle for kidney patients in the Central region of the country, who are grateful for the efforts of the Angolan Executive, especially the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, for not letting people with problems suffer kidneys.
He recalled that hemodialysis machines remove a lot of calcium from patients' bodies, and, without proper supplements, they can become weakened, with various difficulties. He added that, with the entry of the center, patients feel revitalized, with the desire to continue fighting for other opportunities in life, given the difficulties that many of them face at the place of service.
With three floors, the center, adjacent to the Huambo Sanatorium Hospital, has, among others, hospital support services, laboratories, pharmacy, outpatient section with 56 monitors, rooms with televisions, waiting room, induction room, surgeries, administration, cafeteria and an infirmary with 19 beds.
It has 73 employees, including doctors, nurses, diagnostic and therapeutic technicians, psychologists and administrative staff.
