Cabinda – A sum of 151,000 children under the age of 5 were immunized against polio in the province of Cabinda, during the vaccination campaign that took place on the 16th and 17th of this month, in this northernmost region of the country.
The head of the public health department at the Cabinda Provincial Secretariat, Gabriel Nionje, told the press, on Thursday, that the figure exceeds the numbers foreseed, which was 150,591 children.
The door-to-door campaign mobilized 336 teams, totaling 1,199 technicians including vaccinators, registrars and supervisors.
The source also highlighted the support of members of the National Police and the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), as well as traditional and religious authorities.
More than 190k doses of vaccines were allocated to the campaign covering the four municipalities of this province: Cacongo, Belize, Buco-Zau and Sede.
The province of Cabinda has an estimated population of more than 800k inhabitants.
