Caxito – Authorities in the province of Bengo expect to vaccinate at least 83,000 children under the age of 5, in the third phase of the vaccination campaign against polio, taking place from the 6th of this month, in the whole country.
For this purpose, more than 100,000 doses of vaccines are available, 237 brigades made up of three members each, as well as 800 vaccinating agents, supervisors, mobilizers, recorders and coordinators.
The information was provided on Monday by the director of Bengo's Provincial Health Office, Domingos Golão, during a meeting with social partners, to whom he appealed to help the authorities in raising awareness among the population to adhere the vaccination campaign.
Poliomyelitis, also called polio or infantile paralysis, is an acute viral infectious disease transmitted from person to person, mainly by the fecal-oral route.
