Saurimo - Two suspected cases of mpox were recorded by health authorities in the municipality of Muconda, Angolan eastern province of Lunda-Sul.
The information was provided today, Saturday, in Saurimo, by the director of the Provincial Health Office, Viegas de Almeida, highlighting that samples were taken for laboratory tests in Luanda, to determine the diagnosis.
He assured that the two cases are isolated and receiving appropriate assistance in one of the province's health units.
The official appealed to the population to reinforce prevention measures and report all suspected cases of the disease, with a view to facilitating the prompt intervention of the epidemiological teams created in the province.
Mpox is an emerging infectious disease caused by a virus transmitted to humans by infected animals, mostly rodents.
The transmission of mpox can occur through close and prolonged contact with wounds and respiratory secretions released by the infected person when coughing or talking.JW/HD/DOJ
