Luanda – By 2027 Angola intends to train 3,000 specialist doctors, 9,000 nurses, an equal number of diagnosis technicians and therapists, 3,000 hospital support technicians, in addition to general staff, said Thursday in Luanda the minister of Health, Sílvia Lutucuta.
Speaking to the press, after a meeting with her Brazilian counterpart, Nísia Trindade Lima, the Angolan minister informed that the program is part of the national plan for training specialists in the health sector, which may count on the cooperation of Brazil.
She said that traditional medicine is another area in which the government is to extend collaboration with Brazil, for the identification and treatment of various diseases, laboratory training, availability of drugs for the treatment of tuberculosis, malaria and other diseases.
Sílvia Lutucuta also noted that work will continue on Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) projects, the reinforcement of epidemiological and laboratory surveillance, support in the fight against neglected diseases and integrated assistance programs for childhood illnesses, community health, among other health areas.
The minister also mentioned the interest in strengthening collaboration in the health sector with the Brazilian ministry and institutions, especially in specialized long and short-term training for doctors, nurses and diagnostic therapists and staff of the general regime of the National Public Health System.
The Angolan government official highlighted that the Executive is focusing on primary care and wants to learn from the experience of Brazil, as well as support in medicines for the treatment of chronic non-transmissible diseases.
On her turn, the minister of Health of Brazil, Nísia Trindade Lima, said that the two ministries are committed to strengthening collaboration to improve health of both peoples.
She assured that Brazil will help Angola in the research and prevention of HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, leprosy and other infectious and transmissible diseases.
Regarding the exchange of training for doctors and nurses, Nísia Trindade Lima pointed to the internships for professionals from both countries, a bet that will involve all health professionals.
According to her, Brazil has established other health strategies for families, dedicating primary attention to them through promotion, prevention and primary health care, therefore, without specifying, she pointed out that there are many Angolan citizens in training in Brazil.
After the meeting, the two ministers visited the David Bernardino, the Onchoogical Center nd Dom Alexandre do Nascimento cardiovascular hospital.
In the field of cooperation, there are several Complementary Adjustments to the General Agreement for Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation between the Governments of the Republic of Angola and the Federative Republic of Brazil, signed on 11 June 1980.
In April 2023, at the 7th Session of the Brazil-Angola Bilateral Commission in Brasilia, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Angolan and Brazilian Ministries of Health.
