Luanda – At least 87 suspected cases of cholera have been registered in the last 24 hours in four provinces of Angola, the newsletter of the Ministry of Health, responsible for the daily dissemination of cholera data in the country said Saturday.
These are the provinces of Luanda, with 40 cases, Bengo (36), Icolo e Bengo (9) and Zaire (2), the report said, stating that in the last 24 hours, three deaths were recorded in Luanda (2) and Bengo (1).
There are currently 178 people hospitalized with cholera.
Since the beginning of the outbreak, Angola has reported 1,459 cases, 933 in the province of Luanda, 275 in Bengo, 238 in Icolo and Bengo, 4 in Huambo, 3 in Malanje, 3 in Zaire, 2 in Huíla and 1 in Cuanza-Norte, aged between two and 100 years old.
The disease affected 738 males and 721 females, caused 57 deaths, 37 in the province of Luanda, 13 in Bengo, 7 in Icolo and Bengo.
The most affected age group is two to five years, with 241 cases and 10 deaths, followed by 10 to 14 years, with 189 cases and four deaths.
The Ministry of Health has said it is counting on everyone's cooperation and appeals to the communities that in case someone at home is with liquid diarrhea and vomiting, immediately seek a cholera treatment center or the nearest health unit.
It also urged the population to drink plenty of boiled water or water treated with five drops of bleach and prepare a homemade serum. OHA/DAN/AMP
