Caála - The Social Action department in Caála municipality, central Huambo province, kicked off Saturday, a community awareness campaign on breast cancer prevention and screening methods.
The initiative, running until the end of the month, is part of the Pink October month.
Speaking to ANGOP, the local director of the institution, Marizete Manjenje, said they are visiting public and private institutions, churches, informal markets and communities, in general, to educate women about the importance of screening for breast cancer.
Marizete Manjenje said they are providing information, with the help of specialists, on ways to prevent risk and treat the disease which, unfortunately, has led to several deaths, due to the ignorance of the victims in many cases.
The director informed that, so far, members of the local Administration have been mobilized, and the next few days will be reserved for churches, informal markets and communities in general.
The Pink October month takes place annually during this period, with the aim of alerting society to the dangers of breast cancer, early detection of which is one of the main ways of preventing these diseases that have caused many fatalities globally.
