Soyo - The Minister of the Interior, Eugénio Laborinho, appealed Friday in Soyo, Zaire province, for joint actions between his sector and other State bodies to combat cross-border crimes, particularly illegal immigration and fuel smuggling.
Speaking to the press, at the end of a visit of a few hours to Soyo, where he laid the first stone for construction of a police station that will house all the sector's bodies, the minister promised to work with the Provincial Government of Zaire and other similar bodies to discourage these actions.
At the time, the minister acknowledged that there were some weaknesses along the river border with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), due to the geographical complexity of the municipality of Soyo, surrounded by 125 navigable islands.
"Here in the port of Kimbumba, for example, there is a frenetic movement of national and foreign citizens. We are therefore calling for combined action between the Fiscal Police, AGT and other forces, and I appeal to the population to collaborate with the authorities, denouncing offenders," he said.
Zaire province, in northern Angola, shares 310 kilometres of border with the DRC, of which 120 kilometres are on the land border and 190 kilometres on the river, via the Zaire river.
