Mbanza Kongo - At least 415 non-detonated explosive devices were removed in the last 21 days in the city of Mbanza Kongo, northern Zaire province, by the Provincial Department of the National Institute for Demining (INAD).
The information was given to the press Wednesday by the head of INAD's provincial department, David Sapalalo Ndué, stressing that the collection of the material was the result of routine work carried out in the centre and outskirts of the city of Mbanza Kongo.
He explained that the unexploded ordnance, including bullets and ammunition of various calibres, were collected in the vicinity of the premises of the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC) and the Mbanza Kongo Higher School.
"This area was, during the armed conflict, a military unit of the now defunct Angola People Liberation Armed Forces (FAPLA). Hence the existence of some war artefacts", he explained.
