Luanda - Angola and Türkiye should work to increase the business turnover that has decreased in recent years, the Turkish ambassador to Angola, Mahammet Mustafa Çelik, said Monday, in Luanda Province.
In a press interview, at the end of an audience granted to him by the Speaker of the National Assembly (PAN), Carolina Cerqueira, he said that despite good bilateral relations, trade between the two countries registered a reduction of around USD 8 million.
For the diplomat, it is necessary to work to boost economic growth between the two countries, adding that his visit aims to address existing bilateral relations, as well as address technical issues relating to the visit of Carolina Cerqueira to that European country, scheduled for the current month, at the invitation of her counterpart.
The diplomat reinforced that cooperation visits are important, not only for the exchange of information related to the two institutions, but for the growth of both nations.
Mahammet Mustafa Çelik considered excellent relations between Angola and Türkiye and believes that the first visit by the Angolan parliament Speaker will further strengthen cooperation.
He expressed his country's interest in strengthening ties with the National Assembly of Angola with the aim of promoting initiatives that enhance exchanges.
The governments of Angola and Türkiye have made efforts to increase bilateral cooperation in the most varied fields, especially in the Agriculture, Fisheries, Customs Assistance, Education, Industry and Tourism sectors.
Air transport, defence, trade, reciprocal investment protection, mining and renewable energy are among the sectors in which both countries cooperate.
In 2023, the trade balance of Türkiye's exports to Angola was USD 140 million.
To recall that in recent years several forums have been held with Turkish companies, both in Angola and Türkiye, focusing on economic cooperation.
Wheat, industrial machinery, household appliances, hospital and health supplies, among others, is what Turkey exports to Angola.
In the same vein, the African country exports wood, ferrous scrap and aluminum to the European state.
