Luanda - Angola and France trading volume reached around 3.7 billion euros in 2023, according to the French ambassador, Sophie Aubert.
Speaking to the press at the end of an audience granted by the National Assembly speaker, Carolina Cerqueira, she detailed that trade from Angola to France totals 1.7 billion euros and from France to Angola 2 billion euros.
The French ambassador to Angola said that in the 2020/2022 period, trade between the two countries was around US$4 billion, with US$2.9 billion being exports from Angola to France and US$1.1 billion from France to Angola.
However, the diplomat expressed her country's interest in expanding the implementation of projects it carries out in Angola linked to the strengthening of human capital, education, agriculture and the diversification of the national economy.
'We have a very strong relationship with Angola, we are implementing many programs in the country in various areas,' said the diplomat.
She said that the priority is to accompany Angola in its development, especially in the areas of human capital, education, higher education, agriculture and diversification of its economy and ensure access to food,' he said.
The diplomat said that France is one of the main suppliers of cereals (wheat) in Angola.
Parliamentary cooperation
The French diplomat also said that she had discussed with her interlocutor the strengthening of bilateral cooperation in the parliamentary field, through the sharing of information of common interest, exchange of experiences, training of staff, among others.
“We want to follow up this visit by implementing a parliamentary cooperation program and exchange ideas that are of interest to the National Assembly,” she concluded.
France has maintained diplomatic relations with Angola since independence on 11 November 1975.
The first agreement signed in 1982 laid the foundations for bilateral cooperation with one of the country's main economic partners, which has a very strong presence in the oil sector and aims to expand exchanges in other areas.
By the end of 2016, diplomatic and cooperation relations between the two countries were expanding, highlighting France's interest and desire to make Angola a privileged partner, not only on the African continent, but above all to make it one of the largest destinations for French investment abroad.
