Luanda - The US ambassador to Angola, Tulinabo Mushingi, said Thursday in Luanda that President Joe Biden's visit to Angola reflects the high level of relations between the two countries, so “it is not accidental.
Speaking to the press, after a meeting with the National Assembly (AN) Speaker, Carolina Cerqueira, the diplomat stated that the 1st visit of a North American President to Angola is related to the volume of investment that his country carries out to the growth of the Angolan economy.
He said it has been a 30-year diplomatic relationship and that the US will continue to focus on the prosperity, security and good governance of Angolans.
He also referred to continued investment in the health sector, as well as promoting improvements in the business environment, among other initiatives.
He also spoke about the investments that attracted and have attracted American businesspeople to Angola, mentioning the implementation of the Africell mobile phone operator and the Lobito Corridor project.
The attraction of investments for the digitalization of the Angola National Broadcast (RNA) services and TAAG, to compare with others in the Southern African region, and the construction of metal advanced bridges.
In terms of security, he said that they will continue to support Angola's efforts to maintain national stability and regional leadership, expressing satisfaction with the role it is playing in putting an end to the armed conflict in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Still in the security chapter, he informed that a plan is underway to support the continuous modernization of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), in terms of equipment and training.
In terms of democracy, he said that, together with the institutions, they will continue to transmit the US' experience on freedom of the press, local authorities, human rights, and it is up to Angolans to decide the democratic path.
Farewell greetings
On the other hand, Ambassador Tulinabo Mushingi, at the end of his mission, offered farewell greetings to the Angola Parliament Speaker, Carolina Cerqueira.
He took advantage of the moment to praise the personal commitment of the AN leader, who in the last legislature, implemented a new dynamic in the “house of laws”, which allowed the approval of more than 20 bills.
