Dundo - The Prosecutor of the eastern Lunda-Norte province Mário Salvador Gama expressed Thursday concern about the situation of violence against children in the region", adding that this evil requires attention by the justice organs."
The appeal was made at the opening ceremony of the first meeting of the Eastern Judiciary Region of the Attorney General's Office (PGR), Mário Gama.
He said that in 2021 the local institution reported 247 cases of maintenance, 247 cases involving minor heirs , 68 of guardianship, 39 of paternal affiliation and seven of criminal prevention, totaling 636 cases.
According to Magistrate, the number of the cases poses a series of challenges that require the organs in charge of justice to prove their responsibilities.
He also denounced that some of the parents involved in these cases have leading positions in State organs and are linked to the Defence and Security bodies.
The prosecutor stressed the need of State institutions to dedicate themselves to the enforcement of children's rights and create essential conditions for effective protection of minors.
During two-day event, the magistrates from the provinces of Lunda Norte, Lunda Sul and Moxico are discussing issues such as "Public procurement law as a tool to fight corruption", "Legal protection of children's rights" and "The role of the Public Prosecutor’s Office in parentage issue".
The meeting will also assess the reports of activities conducted in the three provinces.
