Luanda - Twenty-eight of the 51 inmates covered by the pardon decreed by the Head of State, João Lourenço, on Wednesday were released in 11 provinces of the country, in a first phase.
The release ceremony took place simultaneously in 11 provinces of the country in the presence of entities from the Penitentiary Service, public prosecutors and judicial magistrates.
The Presidential Decree explains that citizens are being released due to "good behaviour demonstrated and the absence of social danger".
The pardon that takes into account that the proclamation of National Independence constitutes one of the most important historical milestones for the country, given that, through this act, there were officially laid the foundations for the development of a people who had been under colonial oppression for several centuries.
In this first phase of the process, on January 1st, 28 inmates were released, and the rest will be released on January 3rd and 6th.
In Luanda, the ceremony took place at the Viana Prison.
Among those released from prison this Wednesday, in the country's capital, stand out José Filomeno de Sousa dos Santos “Zenu”, son of the former president of the Republic, José Eduardo dos Santos, and Ana da Silva Miguel “Neth Nahara”, who thanked God and everyone involved in the process, guaranteeing that from now on she will do everything so as not to be arrested again.
Abrão Pedro dos Santos, Adolfo Miguel Campos André, Carlos Tavares Ngandu, Celson Januário, Emanuel Leonardo Fonseca, Gilson da Silva Moreira, Hermenegildo José Victor André, Maninho Maneco Baião and Sampaio Francisco Malembe, were other prisoners were also returned to freedom in Luanda.
