Luanda - The US ambassador to Angola, Tulinabo Mushingi, reconfirmed Friday in Luanda that the visit to Angola by his country's President, Joe Biden, had been postponed as a result of the cyclone that hit Florida.

“President Joe Biden's visit will be scheduled when the two sides agree on new specific dates through diplomatic channels,” said the American diplomat to the press after an audience with the Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço.

Tulinabo Mushingi, who during the audience took the opportunity to say goodbye to President João Lourenço, after two years of diplomatic mission in the country, asked Angolan citizens to continue to believe that the US statesman would come to Angola, a fact which, according to the ambassador, “will indeed happen”.

The US president had scheduled a three-day visit to Angola on October 13 to 15 at the invitation of his Angolan counterpart, which will no longer take place due to cyclone “Milton”, which hit the Florida region.

The US ambassador also reaffirmed Angola's support for growth in the economic sector, with an emphasis on trade and reiterated the US assistance to the Angolan government in the area of good governance, with a focus on the fight against corruption and the creation of a more democratic and inclusive society.

Tulinabo Mushingi also conveyed his country's willingness to support Angola's efforts to achieve peace and security in Africa.

The diplomat also spoke about the Lobito Corridor, where the US administration started with an investment of 250 million US dollars, whose figure has now reached 553 million US dollars.

As regards to his country's investment in Angola, the diplomat said it has been channeled to renewable energy, digitalization, demining, health, telecommunications, maritime security, cyber security, combating wildlife trafficking and military professionalization.

Relations between Angola and the United States have been flourishing since 2002.

Today the two countries have a solid basis for cooperation, particularly in the energy, economic and trade, education, culture, health, defense and security and telecommunications sectors.AFL/TED/AMP
