Viana - The Deputy Chief Judge of the Constitutional Court (TC), Victória Izata, on Thursday recommended that the citizens of Viana municipality, in Luanda Province, increase their knowledge of the Constitution in order to safeguard their rights, freedoms and guarantees.
The judge made this recommendation during a project dubbed "Jango da Constituição", an event organised by the Constitutional Court to debate issues related to the main law of the country.
The magistrate considered it important that citizens should know the Constitution, because it lays down the essential foundations for the country's other laws.
She emphasised the fact that the meeting was based above all on issues related to fundamental rights, especially those of an economic, social and cultural nature, which are those that most affect the citizen.
For his part, Luanda's deputy governor for Political and Social Affairs, Manuel Gonçalves, called for the initiative to be extended to other municipalities in the province.
The municipal administration of Viana, Demétrio de Sepúlveda, thanked the district for being chosen to host the fourth edition of the project, emphasising its relevance in clarifying concerns on citizens' rights and duties.
The event was part of the celebrations of the International Children's Day (01 June) and the 16th anniversary of the Constitutional Court to be celebrated on 17 June.
