Icolo and Bengo – The Vice-President of the ruling MPLA Luísa Damião reiterated on Sunday the recognition of the commitment and dedication of the President, João Lourenço, in the quest for peace in the Great Lakes region.
Luísa Damião made the statement during the religious ceremony of the Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ in the World (Tocoísta), which marked the end of the pilgrimage to the Sanctuary of Catete.
The politician emphasized that, as Champion of Peace, the president of the MPLA and of all Angolans, "has been fighting incessantly for peace in the Great Lakes region".
According to Luísa Damião, peace is the indispensable condition for the development of any country, having hailed the Tocoísta Church for being a defender of peace, following the inspiration of the founding prophet Simão Gonçalves Toco.
The politician praised the church for its evangelization, moralization of society and pacification of spirits, so that everyone continues to consolidate peace and be its guardians.
Addressing women, Luisa Damião said they have always shown clear evidence of being educators par excellence, agents of change and promoters of development.
The Vice-President appealed to all Angolans to continue to preserve peace, and asked for everyone's contribution, following the example and faith of the prophets David, the Wisdom of Solomon and the unity of Mary, mother of Jesus, to make Angola a country that everyone should be proud.
Sunday's event, which brought together around two million devotees from different provinces and abroad, aimed to pray for peace in the world, mainly for political stability in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The pilgrimage to the Sanctuary of Catete is annual and, in this 2024 edition, the 89th anniversary of the theophany of Simão Gonçalves Toco was celebrated, under the motto "Let us celebrate the theophany with prayer to God in favor of peace in the world and stability in the DRC" .
