Luanda – Angola’s Vice President Esperança da Costa received in audience the president of the Angola’s Annual West Conference of the United Methodist Church Bishop Gaspar João Domingos, with whom she discussed matters related to the role of the church in the communities.
During audience, Gaspar João Domingos said that he had been appointed by the College of African Bishops to take over the post of chancellor of the University of Africa in Zimbabwe, a higher education institution linked to the United Methodist Church.
He said that he put himself at disposal of the authorities for the training programmes of Angolans in that teaching institution.
In Angola, since the arrival in 1885 of Bishop William Taylor and his caravan of missionaries 137 years ago, the Methodist Church has given priority to the social needs of the most vulnerable people and to education, contributing to the dignity of the Angolan citizen and for the development of the different education subsystems in the country.
The United Methodist Church celebrates on October 30th the “Jubilee Sunday of the 50 years of the Angolan Methodist Episcopate”.
In view of this celebration, Gaspar João Domingos invited the Vice President of the Republic to attend the event.
