Namibe – The Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança Costa, arrived in the south-western province of Namibe on Wednesday morning for a 72-hour working visit, where she will chair the 3rd Ordinary Session of the Multisectoral Commission for Safeguarding the World Cultural Heritage.
At Welwitschia Mirabilis airport, Esperança da Costa was welcomed by the provincial governor, Archer Mangueira, and other officials.
Created by Presidential Order, the commission coordinated by the Vice-President aims to promote the implementation of conservation programs and participatory management of national cultural heritage, in accordance with international conventions and treaties on the matter.
As per the work agenda, Esperança Costa will also carry out a guided tour of the Tchitundo Hulu caves, in the municipality of Virei, to see the historical component and the current state of conservation of the cave paintings at the site, a site with high historical cultural and tourist value.
Still in the same municipality, Esperança da Costa will participate in a tree planting event, as part of the “Knowledge to Preserve Campaign”, developed by the Executive.
On the other hand, the “Okulinonga” Project, whose central value is teaching and learning, will be presented to the Vice-President, on site, by the director of Education, Youth and Sports, followed by a presentation of the phases of the process of raising the Engravings and Rock Paintings of Tchitundu-Hulu to World Historical Heritage.
The agenda also includes a visit to the São Fernando Fortress, the Cine Estúdio, the “Patrice Lumumba” Primary Teaching and the University of Namibe, all of these structures, located in Moçâmedes.
On the last day of her visit (Friday), the official will meet with members of the Provincial Govt to analyze several matters and visit the Namibe Maternal and Child Hospital.
