Uíge - The vice-governor for technical services and infrastructure of Uíge province, Helena Vieira Dias, on Monday urged the Attorney General‘s Office (PGR) to strengthen dialogue with communities in the region in order to curb illegal logging.
Speaking at the opening of the Legality Week part of the celebration s of the PGR's 45th anniversary, the politician said illegal logging in the region has had disastrous implications for the environment.
For this reason, "we call on the PGR to strengthen its dialogue with the communities, informing them about the aspects that affect logging activities," Dias said.
Helena Dias added that, instead of punishing, it is necessary to dialogue, inform and educate communities, so that they are the first inspectors of this practice.
As part of Legality Week, the Uíge Prosecutor's Office, which has 20 magistrates, has scheduled lectures on environmental protection, smuggling VS the destination of seized goods, control of pre-trial detention and sentencing periods, maintenance payments and harassment in educational institutions.NM/JAR/TED/AMP
