Benguela - The deputy provincial governor of Benguela for the Political, Social and Economic sector, Lídia Amaro, defended Wednesday, in this city, cooperation between churches and the Angolan Government to promote an environment of peace and sustainable development.
Lídia Amaro was speaking at the opening ceremony of the workshop on "Security, peace, justice for all and integrity of creation", promoted by the Diocese of Benguela.
On the occasion, she said that the theme, in addition to being suggestive for the development and well-being of the province, is an opportunity to reflect on the search for solutions to the challenges that society faces in terms of security, peace and justice, essential pillars for any nation's sustainable development.
She added that, over the last few years, families have faced considerable challenges that threaten stability and security, including crime and violence within the home, with situations of aggression between family members.
The high consumption of alcoholic beverages and the use of illegal substances, causing health disorders, family disintegration, technical inability to carry out work, as well as increased financial difficulties and negative influence on children and young people, are other challenges to be faced.
Lídia Amaro said that the Angolan Government has developed several actions in the areas of security, peace and social justice, within the scope of the National Development Plan 2023/2027, which highlights judicial reform, promotion of human rights and combating corruption.
The deputy-governor expressed the desire to continue to collaborate closely with religious institutions in favor of the common good, to together build a fairer and supportive society, where all citizens have the opportunity to prosper.
She defended collaboration in educational programs that promote peace and tolerance, campaigns to raise public awareness on topics such as respect for human rights and the need for civic participation.
Community development projects such as the construction of basic infrastructure, the creation of jobs and the promotion of social inclusion, as well as support for vulnerable groups such as street children, drug addicts, orphans, widows and those in a situation of risk, are other government goals.
She emphasized the importance of collaboration and open dialogue in favor of a safer, fairer, more sustainable future, in order to build a more prosperous and harmonious country.
The Deputy-governor recalled that in Angola, during and after the civil war, several religious denominations played significant roles in mediating peace, promoting national reconciliation and providing humanitarian assistance.
The official recognized the role of the church in several initiatives to help rebuild the country and promote social cohesion.
