Luena - The bravery of Angolans, which determined the conquest of National Independence, in the current context must serve as inspiration for the holding of major projects aimed at the country's development, the deputy governor of Moxico Province for Political, Economic and Social sector, Victor da Silva, stated Saturday.
He was speaking to the press as part of the celebration of ‘4 January’, which marks the Martyrs of Colonial Repression Day.
The official considers it a date to evaluate the country's historical journey and to honour the nationalists who fought for national independence.
According to Victor da Silva, young people should dedicate themselves to researching the country's history by consulting mainly the adults for an overall understanding and decision on Angola's future.
On the occasion, former combatants José Fernando Luciano and Zé Tchimocomoco emphasised the various achievements that the country has made since National Independence, but also called for the reinforcement of actions aimed at the social and economic reintegration of former guerrilla people.
The Day of the Martyrs of Colonial Repression honours thousands of defenceless national citizens who were cruelly killed on 4 January 1961 in Baixa de Cassanje, Malanje Province, by the then Portuguese colonial regime.
