Luanda – The Angolan opposition party UNITA’s Parliamentary Group advocated on Thursday for more legislative initiatives by the National Assembly (AN), during the next parliamentary year.
In a press conference, to take stock of the activity of UNITA deputies in the hemicycle during the second parliamentary year of the V Legislature, the chairperson of the aforementioned parliamentary group, Liberty Chiaka, considered that during this period the majority of legislative initiatives came from the Executive.
He reiterated the parliamentary group's commitment to serving Angolans, noting that it will continue to fight for the strengthening and affirmation of the national Assembly, as a sovereign body with its own identity, administrative, financial and representative autonomy for the entire people.
On the occasion, he thanked voters for their trust, motivational encouragement, multifaceted support and sharing of criticisms and suggestions during the proximity days held in the communities.
Asked about the absence of UNITA's management at the presentation of the Jonas Malheiro Savimbi Foundation (FJMS), he informed that the party was represented, stating that despite the two institutions having different objectives, it will deserve the attention of the political organization.
The National Assembly ended the second parliamentary year of the V Legislature on the 15th of this month, having registered 31 legislative initiatives, 29 of which were from the Holder of the Executive Branch, one from the MPLA Parliamentary Group and another from UNITA.
