Luanda - UNITA's Parliamentary Group announced this Thursday, in Luanda, that it will present legislative proposals to the National Assembly, aimed to improve the mechanisms for executing and controlling expenditures linked to the President of the Republic.
According to the UNITA parliamentary whip, Liberty Chiaka - who was speaking at a press conference in reaction to the recently launched "Operation Crab" – the largest opposition party defends a functional and organic separation of powers, meaning an interdependence of the Governmental and Legislative powers.
In UNITA's viewpoint, the creation of safe and effective mechanisms for preventive control and the consolidation of the State must be carried out through the Commission on Defence, Security, Internal Order, Former Combatants and Veterans of the Motherland, as well as the National Assembly.
According to UNITA, it is up to the Head of State to define, guide and direct the general policy of governance of the country and public administration, and the National Assembly must approve laws on all matters, ensure the application of the Constitution and the proper execution of laws.
As for the case of Angolan Armed Forces Major Pedro Lussati, former financier of the Presidency of the Republic's music band, who’s being investigated for corruption under the “Operation Crab”, UNITA considers that his practice is a "serious threat to the country's political stability”.
Within the framework of this operation, which became public in recent days and had considerable impact, were sized several millions of dollars and Kwanzas, and thousands of Euros, as well as various properties, vehicles and other valuable assets.
In addition to the arrest of Pedro Lussati, several general officers with high responsibility positions in the Office of Security of the President of the Republic were fired.
The Attorney General's Office (PGR), in collaboration with the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC), started an investigation process of all the assets that had been acquired by the major of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), in Angola and abroad.
Recently, the Attorney General of the Republic, Hélder Pitta Gróz, stated that the PGR already has elements to conclude that the diverted amounts came from the General State Budget, having suggested the possibility that the major has accomplices.
In this regard, UNITA considers that it is not an isolated phenomenon, and proposes, for this purpose, a profound reform on the presidential organs and auxiliary structures of the President.
