Luanda – The Executive Secretariat of the Standing Committee of UNITA's Political Commission highlighted the participation of that political force in the different agreements that culminated in the pacification of the country.
In a declaration alluding to the 57th anniversary of UNITA's foundation, which ANGOP had access to this Tuesday, the political force underlined, among other things, the tripartite agreements of Mombassa (Kenya) and Alvor (Portugal).
In the document, UNITA also highlighted the Lusaka Protocol (Zambia), the formation of the Government of Unity and National Reconciliation (GURN) and the Luena Peace Agreement, in Moxico Province.
In the declaration, UNITA pays tribute to its founding leader, Jonas Savimbi, and to all the children of Angola, who on the different combat fronts, shed their sweat and blood for freedom, independence and Angola democracy.
“UNITA is proud of its rich history of 57 years, above all for its quality contribution in the great turning points in the History of Angola, in the last five decades”, reads the declaration.
The Executive Secretariat of the Standing Committee of the UNITA's Political Commission reaffirmed that political party's will to work with "all the living forces of Angola", with a view to institutionalizing local governments.
In the statement, the Standing committee of UNITA congratulates the party leader, Adalberto da Costa Júnior, on the electoral result achieved in last August's polls, in which he came in second place.
UNITA was founded in 1966 by Jonas Savimbi. It is represented in the National Assembly by 90 deputies, in a Parliament with 220 seats.
