Huambo- The secretary of Angola’s main opposition party in central Huambo, province, Adriano Bacia, defended Tuesday the adoption of assertive measures to combat inflation, reduce the price of basic goods and services in favor of the well-being of the population.
The politician expressed this concern at an extended meeting of UNITA's Municipal Secretariat which, among various issues, assessed the country's current political, social and economic situation and the political group's strategies for this year.
Adriano Bacia urged the government to implement policies that can quickly contribute to lowering inflation and restore the purchasing power of families, which has been gradually eroded away.
The politician spoke of the need to invest more in intensive agriculture by subsidizing the price of fertilizers, seeds and agricultural equipment for large-scale production.
He added that reducing the prices of the basic food basket and fighting poverty necessarily involves greater investment in the agricultural sector, through serious investment in family and mechanized farming to strengthen food security.
The politician stressed that these actions would help restore families' purchasing power and reduce imports of basic necessities.
Bacia added that UNITA in the municipality of Huambo will work with the government to encourage it to bring basic essential services closer to the communities and, at the same time, to reduce financial bureaucracy to promote projects with an economic and social impact.LT/JSV/ALH/AMP
