Luanda - The European Union (EU) ambassador to Angola, Rosário Bento Pais, Wednesday in Luanda guaranteed an increase of 10 million Euros to the previous 2.5 million made available to support projects in the area of justice and the fight against corruption, as part of the PRO. REACT project.
The 10 million euro funding aims to continue PRO. REACT project , which is to end in November.
The PRO. REACT project, launched in 2021, aims to support the strengthening of the National Asset Forfeiture System under an initiative of the Angolan government.
Financed by the European Union, the project is being implemented by the Attorney General's Office (PGR) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
This was assured by Ambassador Rosário Bento Pais, while speaking on the sidelines of the Conference to Strengthen the Partnership between Angola, European Union and the United Nations, adding that the actions are being defined with the various government bodies and partners that will implement it.
PRO. REACT project has achieved significant objectives, particularly in the field of legislation and the training of magistrate trainers.
According to the EU official, during the implementation of the project, some weaknesses were noted in statistical terms, as there is the need to strengthen knowledge regarding the collection of tax data and financial crimes to achieve greater transparency.
Rosário Bento Pais also said that other challenges in this process have to do with the recovery of financial assets, transparency and the way in which these assets are used.
The conference held on Wednesday, brought together magistrates from the Public Prosecutor's Office and the Judiciary, diplomats, international experts, among other guests, and aimed to strengthen the partnership between the institutions in the combat against corruption and money laundering.
