Ankara - Turkey’s president Recep Tayyip Erdogan was sworn in on Saturday (03) in Ankara for a new five-year term,.
This was during a ceremony witnessed by the Vice President of Republic of Angola, Esperança da Costa, among more than a dozen of statesmen from various countries.
Erdogan’s speech addressed unity and solidarity and he underlined the importance of forgetting resentment and anger.
"As a nation we need to restore strong unity", said the President, for whom, the country has entered a new path with the closing of the polls and the announcement of the election results.
Erdogan has been at the helm of the country for 20 years, standing out for the reforms implemented during that period.
Recep Tayyip Erdogan was born in February 1954.
When he was 13, his father decided to move to Istanbul, hoping to give his five children a better education.
He attended an Islamic school before earning a degree in business from Istanbul's Marmara University and playing football professionally.
From 2003, he served three terms as prime minister, presiding over a period of economic growth and stability.
At that stage, the Turkish middle class expanded and millions of citizens moved from poverty, with Erdogan’s priority to the large infrastructure projects that modernised the country. FMA/AL/CF/NIC
