Huambo – The central Huambo District Court has suspended the elections held in June by the provincial court of the Angolan Bar Association (OAA) in June, which elected list B, headed by Afonso do Nascimento, following a precautionary measure submitted by list D candidate Cláudio Catumua over irregularities, ANGOP has learnt.
Cláudio Catumua has said the there were several irregularities during the electoral process, which led the court to cancel all the acts carried out by the electoral commission.
Running for president of the Provincial Council of the Angolan Bar Association (OAA) in Huambo in June were Pedro Pais (list A), Afonso do Nascimento (B), Nascimento Dinis (C), Cláudio Catumua (D) and Edgar dos Santos (E).
Speaking to the press on Tuesday, the representative of list D, Paulino Hernani Chissende, said that during the electoral process, both in the campaign phase and in the counting of votes, several irregularities were verified, which tainted the transparency and fairness of the elections.
He said the precautionary measure to suspend the elections submitted to the Huambo District Court is a right, which will protect the danger of delay in the action, for a fair, equitable, impartial and transparent process, in order to seek out and bring to light the material truth.
